I’ve always thought of myself as a self-proclaimed foodie but by no means as a chef; if anything perhaps I’m more of an experimenter who gets fancy with the spices from time to time. I don’t cook, I play and when I whip up meals in my kitchen it is like I am acting out a scene from Top Chef and trying to create something fabulous out of my (more often than not) empty fridge.
For Thanksgiving, my contribution has usually been a small dish with a large appetite but this year the game has changed a bit and my mom, who usually plays Chef extraordinaire is hanging up her apron and taking a back seat to this year’s holiday. As a result, this Not Chef is going to try and become Top Chef as I attempt to cook my very first Thanksgiving dinner.
With the help of various issues of Bon Appetit and Food & Wine I have been carefully planning my ambitious menu with high hopes that the final results will look something like the high-gloss photos in my foodie magazines.
As I undertake this daunting task of whipping together a Thanksgiving feast, I will photograph and blog the turn out to either memorialize my success or document my failings. Nevertheless, my optimism is high and my wine glass half full-wish me luck!
